Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis has cemented his place among T20 cricket royalty, reaching the coveted 10,000-run milestone during his side’s win against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Du Plessis Scores Blazing Half-Century, Enters T20 History Books
The South African veteran not only achieved the landmark but also put on a masterclass in aggressive batting. He smashed a fiery 64 off just 23 balls, peppering the Gujarat Titans attack with 10 fours and 3 sixes at a staggering strike rate of 278.26. This knock ensured his entry into the elite club of T20 batsmen with over 10,000 runs.
Du Plessis joins a prestigious list of players who have surpassed the 10,000-run mark in T20 cricket. The undisputed king of T20 batting, Chris Gayle, sits atop the leaderboard with a staggering 14,562 runs. Following Gayle are Pakistan’s evergreen cricketer Shoaib Malik (13,360 runs) and the explosive West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard (12,900 runs). With his consistent performances, Du Plessis has now firmly established himself alongside these T20 greats.
Du Plessis and RCB Dominate Gujarat Titans
While Du Plessis’ knock was the highlight of the match, it was a complete team performance by RCB that secured victory. RCB opted to field first and restricted the Gujarat Titans to a modest total of 147 runs in 19.3 overs. Yash Dayal, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Mohammed Siraj were the pick of the RCB bowlers, each taking two wickets.
Despite a shaky start at 19/3, the Gujarat Titans threatened a comeback thanks to a 61-run partnership between Shahrukh Khan (37 runs) and David Miller (30 runs). However, RCB bowlers maintained control, taking wickets at regular intervals. A late cameo by Rahul Tewatia (35 runs) and Rashid Khan (18 runs) only added some respectability to the Gujarat Titans’ total.
