Their key players have recovered from injuries, and they regained their dominance by winning the Asia Cup just ahead of the World Cup. Jasprit Bumrah is swinging the new ball brilliantly, KL Rahul has rediscovered his form in the middle order, Shreyas Iyer scored a century upon his return, and Kuldeep Yadav is brimming with newfound confidence.
However, India faces a challenge at the top of the order. Shubman Gill, down with dengue, is unavailable for this match. Ishan Kishan is likely to partner Rohit Sharma as an opener. Additionally, the decision of who to slot in at No. 8 presents a conundrum. Ravichandran Ashwin or Shardul Thakur are viable options, but the pitch’s characteristics in Chennai might favor the off-spinner Ashwin.
Australia, on the other hand, is determined to make amends. After suffering four consecutive defeats, including three to South Africa and two to India, they found their rhythm in the final ODI at Rajkot. However, they still have some issues to address. Adam Zampa, who performed brilliantly in their last encounter in Chennai, poses a challenge to India once again. But the absence of Marcus Stoinis due to injury and Travis Head for at least the first two weeks of the World Cup may tip the scales slightly in India’s favor.
