GSL Final Proceeds Despite Bangladesh Players NOC Issues

Rangpur Riders played the GSL finals amid BCB’s NOC issue for three key Bangladesh players. This happened ahead of the series against the West Indies.

On December 6, Rangpur Riders played the GSL Final amid BCB’s NOC issue on the three key players of Bangladesh. Last-minute uncertainties happened in the final match over the availability of Rishad Hossain, Afif Hossain, and Soumya Sarkar.

The match took place in Providence, Guyana. Ahead of the series against West Indies in St Kitts, this happened just two days before the series.

Rangpur Riders reached the final after beating Lahore Qalandars.With the NOC issue , Soumya Sarkar had missed his flight to Guyana, where he was about to join the team for  the upcoming ODI series.

BCB And NOC Complications 

The Bangladesh Cricket Board asked Rangpur Riders to release the three players. Rishad Hossain, Afif Hossain and Soumya Sarkar had to appear in the National ODI squad for the series against West Indies. On December 8, the ODI series of BAN vs WI is going to begin.

Afif had a valid NOC until December 7, however Rishad and Soumya’s NOC had expired. BCB refused to extend their permits despite Rangpur’s formal request.

The franchise tried their best to establish contacts with the BCB president Faruque Ahmed, who is on his way to New York.

The situation escalated as Rangpur warned of forfeiting the final, stating that missing the match would harm Bangladesh cricket’s global reputation. The franchise emphasized their national representation, urging BCB to reconsider its stance.

“If they remain steadfast in their decision, Rangpur will have to forfeit the final match without even stepping onto the field,” a Rangpur Riders statement said. “Such an incident would undoubtedly tarnish Bangladesh cricket’s reputation on the global stage, as it is extremely rare for a team to miss a final due to a player shortage.

“Moreover, in the GSL, Rangpur is not just representing themselves but the entire nation of Bangladesh. Therefore, such an unfortunate event would be deeply disappointing for cricket enthusiasts as well.”

Tournament Adjustment and Player Shortage 

The GSL finals was initially rescheduled to December 6 to avoid the clash with Bangladesh ODI series.However, the player shortage already happened on the Rider’s side.

The franchise missed key overseas players like Khushdil Shah and Matthew Forde due to NOC Issues and injuries.

The uncertainty lingered until the final moments, but the contest ultimately proceeded as scheduled.
