The ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup is here. On October 4, Indian women started their journey with an intense clash against New Zealand Women. Representing the country on the big stage is always a big thing and its nothing different for the Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Harmanpreet Kaur showcased her emotions during the national anthem before India’s T20 World Cup opener against New Zealand, capturing attention.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s Emotion Grabbed the Attention:

After a long wait, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup has come back with the ninth edition. The marquee event is taking the event in UAE. On October 4, the India Women’s team started their T20 World Cup journey with a match against New Zealand. During the national anthem, a special moment grabbed the attention. 

As both teams stood for the national anthems, Harmanpreet Kaur was visibly moved. She took a deep breath, overwhelmed by the significance of representing India on such a grand stage. This moment highlighted the honor and pride of wearing the national colors and representing the country on the biggest stage. 

Harmanpreet Kaur made history by leading India in the toss for their opening match of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. She is the first Indian captain to guide the national team in four editions of this tournament. Previously, Mithali Raj captained in three editions, while Jhulan Goswami led in the first two. Kaur’s achievement marks a significant milestone for Indian women’s cricket.

Team India’s Disappointing Start:

In the fourth clash of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Indian Women faced New Zealand. But India’s first match of this edition ended with disappointment. While bowling in the first innings, India’s bowling lineup shattered a bit. Renuka Singh secured 2 wickets. Arundhati Reddy and Asha Sobhana secured 1 wicket each. The other bowlers remained wicketless. They restricted the opponent in just 160 runs. 

While chasing the target, the Indian side struggled. While opening the innings, Shefali Verma was dismissed scoring 2 runs. Smriti Mandhana scored 12 runs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed scoring 15 runs. Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodrigues scored 12 and 13 runs. But those efforts fell short and Team India faced a big 58-run defeat in their inaugural match of this edition.
