In a high-octane encounter between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya achieved a significant milestone by scoring 2000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The momentous feat was achieved during the 8th over, as Pandya smashed a carrom ball from off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin over mid-off/extra cover to score the crucial runs.

Just 16 run short

Pandya, who began the game just 16 runs short of the 2000 run milestone, has now joined an elite list of players who have scored 2000+ runs and have taken 50+ wickets at the IPL. The hard-hitting all-rounder has 2012 runs exactly 50 wickets in the IPL spanning over a nine-year and 100 matches career.

Shane Watson, Andre Russell, Ravindra Jadeja, Kieron Pollard, and Jacques Kallis are the only other players to have achieved this feat in the IPL. Pandya’s exceptional performance has cemented his place in the list of the league’s most successful all-rounders.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. Gujarat Titans had a horrible start as they lost their opener Wriddhiman Saha in the first over itself. Trent Boult took an amazing catch amidst the chaos to ensure that the hard work he put into his bowling does not go unrewarded. Sai Sudarshan was soon to follow as he fell prey to an amazing throw by Jos Buttler. That’s when Hardik Pandya came in and started his strokeplay straight away. He took the Royals’ spinners for a ride, making sure his team gets the much-needed recovery after 2 early wickets. Pandya scored 28 runs from 19 balls before being removed by Yuzvendra Chahal.
