Within a few days, the all-time rivals, England and Australia are set to face each other in a limited over series. Both are scheduled to play three T20I matches and five ODI matches. But before facing Australia, England faced a big setback. England’s captain Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the T20 series and has not been confirmed for the ODI series too. Jamie Overton will replace Buttler in the T20 Squad.
No Buttler in the T20 Series Against Australia:
England and Australia are all set to face each other in a three-match T20 series. Before that, England faced a massive setback. Jos Buttler has been ruled out of England’s T20I series against Australia due to a setback in his recovery from a right calf injury.
He may also miss the five-match ODI series that follows. Buttler, England’s limited-overs captain, injured his calf in July while preparing for the Hundred tournament, which had already kept him out of that event. Now, he is also sidelined for the T20 series.
Jamie Overton has been added to the T20I squad as a replacement. He is expected to play primarily as a specialist batter while he recovers from a back stress fracture.
Additionally, Jordan Cox has been included in the ODI squad as a cover. This move provides extra depth and flexibility as the team navigates through the upcoming series.

Phil Salt to Lead the Team:
Phil Salt will take over as captaincy for the T20I series against Australia. He will also be the team’s wicketkeeper. Salt has previously served as captain when deputizing for Jos Buttler with the Manchester Originals during The Hundred.
Although he guided the Originals during the 2024 season, his team finished seventh, missing out on the playoffs by a significant margin. This is his first major opportunity to captain the national side, and he will lead England in Buttler’s absence.
