Team India received a boost as KL Rahul resumed net practice following an elbow injury during Perth match simulations.

On November 16, Shubman Gill fractured his thumb while fielding, potentially ruling him out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener.

If Gill misses the match, KL Rahul might get promoted to No. 3. Coach Gautam Gambhir backed Rahul for his versatility, highlighting his ability to adapt to different positions in the batting order.

Possible Lineup Adjustments for Perth Test

India faces several uncertainties, with skipper Rohit Sharma potentially skipping the opener due to personal reasons.

If Rohit is unavailable, KL Rahul might open the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The team management is also considering Dhruv Jurel, who impressed with twin half-centuries in recent matches. Jurel could strengthen the middle order if needed.

Rahul’s recent form has raised concerns, with low scores against New Zealand and Australia A. However, Gambhir emphasised Rahul’s experience and adaptability, labelling him a valuable asset.

“I think, and that is the quality of a man that he can actually bat at the top of the order. He can bat at number three, and he can actually bat at number six as well. So you need quite a lot of talent to be doing these kind of jobs as well. And he’s kept wickets in one day format as well. So imagine how many countries have players like KL who can actually open the batting and can bat at number six as well. So I feel that, if needed be, I think he can do the job for us, especially if it is not available for the first Test match, yeah,” he told the reporters in Mumbai.
