In what could be seen as a tantalizing prelude to the much-anticipated clash in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Australia’s emerging cricketing talent, Marnus Labuschagne, has expressed his admiration for India’s dynamic skipper, Rohit Sharma. With the cricketing world eagerly counting down to the clash of these titans on October 8th in Chennai, Labuschagne’s insights into Sharma’s batting prowess have added an intriguing layer of anticipation to the contest.
Rohit Sharma’s Ability to Score Freely
Labuschagne, who secured his spot in the World Cup squad after a scintillating run against South Africa and India in September, couldn’t help but commend Rohit Sharma’s remarkable batting finesse. In an exclusive interview with FOX Cricket, Labuschagne acknowledged Sharma’s unique ability to accumulate runs without assuming unnecessary risks.
“Rohit Sharma is someone who scores quite freely without taking any risks. He’s very hard to stop once he gets going,” remarked Labuschagne.
Rohit Sharma’s Impressive Form
Rohit Sharma’s recent form has been nothing short of impressive, with a stellar 81-run performance against Australia in the final ODI match leading up to the World Cup. As an Australia batting all-rounder who had the privilege of facing Sharma during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier, Labuschagne expressed his eagerness to closely observe the Indian captain and glean as much knowledge as possible.
“As I said to Rohit out there when we were walking. I said ‘I am watching whatever you do, I want to learn. You guys are the best in these conditions. We are foreign to these conditions. You learn from the opposition, you learn from the way they do it. We try and learn and grow with each game,” he added.
Labuschagne’s Remarkable Journey
Marnus Labuschagne’s journey to the World Cup squad was far from straightforward, as he was not initially included in Australia’s roster. However, two outstanding innings against South Africa significantly bolstered his case. His consistency against India, scoring 39, 27, and an impressive 72, made his late inclusion into the squad all the more sensational.
Initially omitted from the extensive 18-member squad in August, Marnus Labuschagne has emphatically forced his way into contention. His inclusion in the squad now offers him the opportunity to occupy the pivotal No. 4 batting position, while Mitch Marsh takes on the opening role in the early stages of the tournament.
