Melbourne Stars Hit by Blow as Skipper Glenn Maxwell Benched with Injury After Opening Match

In the opening fixture, Melbourne Stars locked horns with Brisbane Heat. In the opening match, Melbourne Stars faced a setback. Skipper Glenn Maxwell sustained an injury and was sidelined from the next match.

Maxwell’s Injury:

In the opening match, Melbourne Stars skipper Glenn Maxwell sustained an injury. When he was batting in the match, the injury happened. The medical team came twice to check the all-rounder. The injury happened in the forearm. Even after the injury, he continued batting wrapping tape in the injured place. 

He walked away after scoring 23 runs. While sitting in the dugout, Maxwell was icing his injury. The impact of the injury is still unknown. But as per the reports, he is going to miss the next match because of the injury. That is a big setback for the team. The team is expecting, that he will come back in the match against Sydney Thunder. 

Another Injury:

Injury has become a concern for the Melbourne Stars. After Glenn Maxwell, Nathan Coulter-Nile also sustained an injury. He injured his calf muscle while bowling against the opponent in the opening match. After that injury, he was taken for a scan to know the nature and seriousness of the injury.

The franchise released a statement. They said, “Nathan Coulter-Nile will undergo scans this weekend to determine damage to a calf injury suffered whilst bowling against the Brisbane Heat.”

In the first match, Melbourne Stars faced a huge defeat of 103 runs. While batting first, Brisbane Heat set a target of 215 runs. Melbourne Stars fell short of reaching the target they got all out on 111 runs. In the next match, they will face Perth Scorchers.
