MS Dhoni Set for Mid-October Meeting with CSK Officials in Mumbai

Chennai Super Kings are set to retain iconic player MS Dhoni for another season, thanks to the BCCI reintroducing the ‘uncapped player’ rule for the 2025-2027 IPL period. However, Dhoni has not yet confirmed his participation for the upcoming season. Reports suggest that the former CSK captain is expected to meet with franchise officials later this month to discuss his future plans. Fans eagerly await Dhoni’s decision, as his presence remains crucial to CSK’s ongoing legacy in the tournament.

MS Dhoni to Meet CSK Officials in Mid-October:

Earlier this summer, Dhoni addressed growing speculation about his future in the IPL, stating that his decision would be influenced by the retention policies outlined by the IPL Governing Council. His statement came as fans anxiously awaited clarity on whether the legendary cricketer would continue his IPL journey in the upcoming seasons, keeping everyone in suspense.

MSD said, “There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court. So, once the rules and regulations get formalised, I will take a call, but needs to be in the best interest of the team.”

Last week, the BCCI reinstated the ‘uncapped player’ rule, which had been removed in 2021, giving Chennai Super Kings a sense of relief regarding Dhoni’s future in the IPL. This change rekindled hopes for fans eager to see the iconic captain continue his journey with CSK. However, the rule is only applied for Indian players only.

According to the rule, “ a capped Indian player will become uncapped, if the player has in the last five calendar years preceding the year in which the relevant Season is held, not played in the starting XI in International Cricket (Test match, ODI, Twenty20 International) or does not have a Central Contract with BCCI.”

Although the BCCI’s move appears to favor Chennai, the franchise has remained silent on MS Dhoni’s involvement in the 2025 IPL season, as reported by Cricbuzz. The legendary captain, who has steered Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles, is expected to meet with the team’s management in mid-October in Mumbai, where he is likely to announce his final decision regarding his future with the team.

If MS Dhoni decides to play in the 2025 IPL season, he will reportedly face a significant 66.67% salary reduction compared to his previous retention value of INR 12 crore before the 2021 auction.
