Apart from the cricketing reason, Pakistan cricket is grabbing the limelight again. Another economic tension is arising over the cricket board. The Pakistan cricket camp is facing unrest due to ongoing delays in paying players’ monthly retainers and sponsorship earnings. There is also frustration over the wait for the announcement of central contracts, adding to the discontent within the team.
Discontent in Pakistan Cricket Camp
Frustrations are rising in the Pakistan cricket camp due to delays in payments. Players are still waiting for their monthly retainers and shares from sponsorship earnings. The announcement of which players will receive central contracts is also pending, adding to their anxiety.
The lack of timely payments has led to increased dissatisfaction among the players, especially those on central contracts. Previously, the players received a significant pay rise and additional benefits in their last contract agreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board. However, the ongoing delays in payments have caused unrest within the squad, with many expressing their concerns over the situation.
While talking about this, the source said, “For the last three months the players are waiting for their payments and also an announcement of the central contracts list.”

Payments Delayed Due to Administrative Problems:
In the latest contract negotiations, players saw a significant boost in their retainers and additional benefits. Under the current terms, elite players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi enjoy a monthly retainer of 4.5 million rupees after tax. They also benefit from sponsorship shares and three percent of the PCB’s income from the International Cricket Council.
However, a source within the board revealed that payment delays have arisen due to administrative issues. Additionally, the PCB has yet to receive its complete revenue from various sources. These complications have led to growing concerns among players regarding their financial stability and the timely disbursement of funds.
The Source said, “The PCB is spending a lot on the complete facelift of the three stadiums in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi for the ICC Champions Trophy besides other cricket-related expenses. But the dues of players would be cleared this month.”
Domestic Players Are Also Waiting for the Payment:
There is a hold-up in releasing retainers for domestic players. The board has also postponed the distribution of shares from the Pakistan Super League franchises that come from the central pool. This delay is causing frustration among domestic players who rely on these payments.
In this matter, the source said, “Last year also the central contracts announcement was delayed right until the World Cup began in India and this year there is more delay in the announcement of contracted players. So there is growing uncertainty and unrest among some players.”
