Rishabh Pant Creates History in WTC
Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant added another feather to his cap during the first Test against Australia at Perth.Â
He joined Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as the third Indian to score 2000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC).
Pant achieved this milestone in his 30th WTC match with a three-run shot on Friday.
Pant, who returned to international cricket in September 2024 after recovering from a severe road accident, now has 2007 runs.
Despite a long hiatus, his performance has been commendable, with his impactful centuries, including a ton against Bangladesh earlier this year.
Pant’s Milestone Amidst Key Performances
Pant’s achievement places him alongside Rohit Sharma, who leads the WTC runs tally for India with 2685 runs, and Virat Kohli, who has scored 2432 runs.Â
Globally, England’s Joe Root tops the chart with 5325 runs.
In the ongoing series, Pant eyes another record—surpassing MS Dhoni’s six Test centuries as an Indian wicketkeeper.
With six centuries in just 39 Tests, Pant’s next milestone seems within reach.

India vs Australia 1st Test, Day 1: Pat Cummins’ Strategy Pays Off as India Lose Fifth Wicket
India is struggling on Day 1 of the 1st Test against Australia in Perth. India won the toss and opted to bat but are losing wickets at regular intervals.
KL Rahul (26) was dismissed by Mitchell Starc, and now Rishabh Pant (15*) is at the crease, joined by Dhruv Jurel (1*), with India at 66/5.Â
Australian bowlers, especially Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, have been dominant, with Cummins introducing Mitchell Marsh into the attack, resulting in Jurel’s dismissal.
India’s batting lineup is facing pressure from Australia’s pace attack. Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal (0), Devdutt Padikkal (0), and Virat Kohli (5) were all dismissed.Â
The match is being played on a pitch with healthy bounce, and India’s batsmen are struggling to find their rhythm.
India has handed debut caps to pacer Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, while Washington Sundar is the sole spin option.Â
Australia, led by Pat Cummins, is aiming for more wickets to maintain their dominance.
India will look to Pant and Jurel to build a strong partnership as they aim to stabilise their innings.
