Team India Skipper Rohit Sharma has given a huge update on Rishabh Pant’s knee injury sustained during the Second Day of the First Test against New Zealand. The incident occurred in the 37th over when Pant attempted a stumping against Devon Conway but was struck on the right knee after failing to collect the ball cleanly. Team captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that Pant experienced swelling in the same knee that had previously undergone surgery. “And you know the muscles are quite tender at this point in time, so it’s a precautionary measure. We don’t want to take a risk. Rishabh doesn’t want to take a risk because he has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg. That was the reason for him to go inside.”, Rohit said, while addressing the media at the end of the day’s play.

Rohit expressed hope that Pant would recover overnight and could potentially return to the field for Day 3. “Hopefully, at night he can recover and we will see him back on the field tomorrow,” he stated.
