Dolphins’ skipper Saud Shakeel emphasized that certain umpiring calls and the outcome of the toss significantly contributed to their early departure from the ongoing Champions One-Day Cup. He pointed out that these factors disrupted their momentum and affected their performance throughout the tournament. Shakeel believes that with different decisions, their chances could have improved, and he expressed disappointment over how these elements influenced their campaign, ultimately preventing the team from advancing further in the competition.
Saud Shakeel Not Happy With Early Exit:
Saud Shakeel’s Dolphins were the only team to miss out on the playoffs, finishing at the bottom of the standings in the five-team tournament. They accumulated only 12 points from four matches, which ultimately led to their early elimination. Despite their efforts, the team struggled to secure the necessary victories during the group stage, resulting in their disappointing last-place finish and absence from the playoff rounds.
In an interview with a local news channel, he discussed his team’s performance in the Champions Cup, noting that they faced challenges across all three areas of the game, indicating a lack of cohesion and effectiveness in their overall strategy. He said, “ We didn’t play the way we wanted to in any of the three aspects—batting, bowling, or fielding. But winning and losing is part of the game, and it’s important to learn from our mistakes.”
Saud Shakeel added that the toss had a crucial impact on their elimination from the tournament and highlighted that several umpiring decisions negatively affected their performance, contributing to their struggles throughout the competition and ultimately leading to their exit.
He further said, “ The toss was crucial. In all three matches, we ended up bowling first, which didn’t work in our favour. Additionally, some umpiring decisions went against us, which impacted our performance.”
He then disclosed that the Dolphins prioritized physical fitness leading up to the Champions Cup, noting that all players successfully passed the fitness test. However, he emphasized the need for continued improvement in their physical conditioning to enhance overall performance.
He concluded, “ Perhaps the heat affected our energy levels. As professional players, we need to improve wherever we see room for it. The true test of a cricketer lies in long-format cricket, but anyone with solid first-class experience can excel in any format.”
