South Africa climbed to the top of the WTC 2023-25 table after defeating Sri Lanka 2-0 in the Test series, boosting their chances for the finals.

South Africa Clinched Top Spot In WTC

South Africa climbed to the top of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 points table. South Africa made a comprehensive 109 run victory over Sri Lanka. The series concluded with a 2-0 clean sweep. This victory enhanced South Africa’s chances of reachythe final.

With this win, South Africa secured their sixth victory in 10 matches. This pushed their percentage to 63.33. This achievement saw them surpass reigning champions Australia, who now stand in second place with 60.71 percentage points.

Dominant Bowling Secures South Africa Victory 

The fourth day of the second Test began with Sri Lanka requiring 143 runs to win. While South Africa needed five wickets.

South Africa’s bowlers capitalised on the situation by dismissing the set batters.

Kusal Mendis (46) and Dhananjaya de Silva (50) early in the day.

Keshav Maharaj was the standout performer, claiming a five-wicket haul. Sri Lanka’s innings ended at 238 in 69.1 overs. The South African players’ zeal led to an emphatic 109-run victory. The first Test had already set the tone, as Sri Lanka crumbled for 42 runs in their first innings.

After this series, South Africa moved to the top with 63.43 percentage points. Australia slipped to second position with 60.61 percentage. India is on the third spot with 56.29 percentage, after their loss to Australia. Sri Lanka’s defeat caused their percentage drop to 45.45.
