History

Introducing Danielle Nicole Wyatt, the cricket dynamo born on April 22, 1991, in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. She’s a powerhouse with the bat, favoring her right hand, and a spin maestro with her right-arm off-break deliveries. Wyatt is known for her role as a batting all-rounder, adding excitement to the cricket field at the age of 32.

Danni Wyatt, a fierce hitter and sometimes an offspinner, discovered her true cricket calling in late 2017 when she was given the exciting role of opening the batting for England’s T20I team.

Representing England since 2010, Danni Wyatt has left her mark in cricket. She made a stunning Test debut against Australia on June 22, 2023 (cap 168). Wyatt’s journey began with ODIs, earning her cap (116) against India on March 1, 2010, followed by a T20I debut against India on March 4, 2010 (cap 25). Teams

At the young age of 14 in 2005, Danni Wyatt stepped onto the cricket scene, proudly representing Staffordshire for the first time. She dominates the opening and middle order and also brings her off-break bowling flair to the game. She showcased her skills with Staffordshire Ladies and Meir Heath Women in the Northern Premier League, making a move from Gunnersbury after the 2012 season. Wyatt isn’t just limited to the women’s league; she’s also made her mark in men’s club cricket, representing her local club, Whitmore.

In a remarkable display of batting prowess during the 2018 Women’s T20I Tri Nations Series in India, Danni Wyatt hit her second century in WT20Is, scoring 124 runs against India. Her innings propelled England to the highest-ever successful chase in WT20I history (199/3). Wyatt became the second woman, after Deandra Dottin, to achieve two centuries in WT20Is and recorded the second-highest individual score, just behind Meg Lanning’s 126.

Her 124 runs also set the record for the highest individual score by an opener in a WT20I match. Additionally, Wyatt notched the second-fastest century in a WT20I innings, reaching the milestone in just 52 balls, following Deandra Dottin’s 38-ball century. In recognition of her outstanding performances, she earned a spot in England’s squad for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies.

In November 2018, Danni Wyatt joined the Melbourne Renegades for the 2018–19 Women’s Big Bash League season. Her talent was further recognized in February 2019 when she received a full central contract from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for the year. Later, in June 2019, Wyatt was selected for England’s squad in the opening match against Australia for the Women’s Ashes series.

Danni Wyatt, a right-arm off-break bowler, faced a challenge in her bowling action from 2013 to 2016, leading to reduced international bowling. Yet, her phenomenal fielding and impactful batting, with a striking 136.13 strike rate in the 2015 Women’s County Championship, kept her in consideration for the England squad. She secured a spot in the 2016 World Twenty20 squad, showcasing her skills as a power hitter

Danni Wyatt has been on a cricket journey spanning various teams and leagues. Starting with Staffordshire from 2005 to 2012, she ventured to Victoria in 2011/12 and then Nottinghamshire from 2013 to 2015. She returned to Victoria in 2015/16 before joining the Melbourne Renegades until 2019/20. Currently, she’s been with Sussex since 2016 and Southern Vipers since 2017. She also had stints with Lancashire Thunder in 2016, Supernovas in 2018, and Velocity in 2019/20. Presently, she’s part of Southern Brave and joined Brisbane Heat in 2022/23.

Achievements and Awards

Danni Wyatt’s cricket journey has been marked by achievements. In 2010, she earned an MCC Young Cricketers contract for daily training at the MCC, fostering her development. As a pioneer, she secured one of the first 18 ECB central contracts for women players in April 2014.

Notably, Wyatt contributed to the triumph of the women’s team at the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup in England. Recognizing her stellar performance, she was honored in December 2017 as part of the ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year.
