Cricket Australia (CA) has appointed Todd Greenberg as its next Chief Executive Officer. Todd Greenberg takes the reins from current CEO Nick Hockley. Hockley is set to vacate the office by the end of the Australian summer.
Todd Greenberg: Cricket Australia’s Next CEO
Greenberg comes with a fantastic résumé in cricket and rugby league. Most recently, he worked as CEO of the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA), building robust relationships with players and stakeholders. Notably, in leading negotiations on the latest Memorandum of Understanding between Cricket Australia and the ACA, Greenberg shows his ability to find common ground in a very difficult situation.
His experience extends well beyond cricket. Former CEO of the National Rugby League (NRL), Greenberg is the man who made sure to innovate and commercialise it. Some of the innovations were the launch of the NRL Women’s League, known as NRLW, and the expansion of the State of Origin series to Melbourne. Add to this his early experience as General Manager of Stadium Australia, and you have a leader well-versed in managing broadcast partnerships, sponsorships, and large-scale events.
Cricket Australia Ready for the New Chapter
CA chairman Mike Baird said he is confident that Greenberg would steer Australian cricket to new heights.
“Todd will bring enormous experience to the role, not only from his time leading the NRL and the ACA but also through his deep understanding of cricket as a former player,” Baird remarked. “We were particularly impressed by his passion for the sport and his vision to sustain the growth achieved over the past few years.”
Baird also acknowledged Nick Hockley’s contributions to CA. He credited him for leaving the organisation in a strong position. With a broadcast rights deal settled, a strategic content plan, and a robust MOU in place, Greenberg inherits an organisation ready for further progress.
Todd Goldberg Ready for the Role
Speaking on his new role, Greenberg flaired an optimistic tone. “This is an enormous privilege,” he said. “Cricket has been a lifelong passion for me, and I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to contribute to its future.”
He recognized that the rapid expansion of cricket globally would pose a challenge and an opportunity to Australia. It will require vision and teamwork at all levels to maintain Australian cricket at the pinnacle of the sport. Greenberg stated his desire to grow, not just professionally but also at grass-roots cricket.
“I’m committed to ensuring cricket thrives, from local parks to our iconic stadiums,” he said.
