Chris Gayle, the Caribbean giant, has been one of the biggest crowd-pullers in the history of Indian Premier League. His massive sixes have always been the highlight of the league. IPL without Gayle would have been like Pizza without toppings. Both serve as the essence.
He holds the record for having the highest individual score in IPL. In the 2013 edition, he went absolutely berserk and took the Pune Warriors India’s bowlers to the cleaners. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, he struck an unbeaten 175 from just 66 balls.
The left-hander sent the ball over the ropes a record 17 times. At one stage, it seemed as if he would become the first batsman to cross the 200-run barrier in T20 cricket. As of today, the record stands and it will take a special effort from someone to break that.
Who can forget the knock from Brendon McCullum in the inaugural match of IPL 2008? The Kiwi batsman blazed his way to 158 from 73 balls in the very first game for Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore. It was the knock that really set the tone for the remainder of the league.
