Harbhajan Singh Apologizes Following Controversial Video with Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina

Harbhajan Singh has issued an apology after disability rights groups criticized a viral video featuring him, Yuvraj Singh, and Suresh Raina. The video, posted on Instagram following India‘s victory over Pakistan in the World Championship of Legends final, showed the cricketers limping and holding their backs, which was perceived as mocking people with disabilities.

Harbhajan’s Clarification

In response to the backlash, Harbhajan took to Twitter to clarify the intent behind the video. He explained that the video was meant to humorously depict their sore bodies after playing continuous cricket for 15 days. He emphasized that there was no intention to offend or mock anyone and expressed regret if the video hurt anyone’s sentiments.

Harbhajan’s Apology Statement

“We didn’t want to hurt anyone’s sentiments. We respect every individual and community. This video was just to reflect our sore bodies after playing continuous cricket for 15 days. We are not trying to insult or offend anyone. Still, if people think we have done something wrong, I am sorry to everyone. Please, let’s stop this here and move forward. Stay happy and healthy. Love to all. Regards,” Harbhajan stated.

Response from Disability Rights Groups

The National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) condemned the video, calling it “totally disgraceful” and criticized the former cricketers for their insensitivity. Arman Ali, the executive director at the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People, urged the BCCI to take note of the video and described the cricketers’ behavior as “shameful and atrocious.” A police complaint has also been filed against the involved cricketers.
