Another thrilling T20 World Cup is commencing soon. This year October, the Women’s Cricket world will witness another thrilling edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Bangladesh will host the prestigious tournament this time. Before the West Indies Women’s Cricket team got a huge boost. Deandra Dottin has come out of retirement and made herself available for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Deandra Dottin is one of the best all-rounders of the West Indies women’s team of all time. While playing for her nation, the all-rounder showcased her excellence to the cricket world. In August 2022, Dottin announced her retirement, Over her career, she played 143 One Day Internationals (ODIs), scoring 3,727 runs, and 127 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), where she accumulated 2,697 runs.
Dottin is famous for holding the record for the fastest century in women’s T20Is, having scored a 38-ball hundred against South Africa during the 2010 T20 World Cup. Additionally, she took 72 wickets in ODIs and 62 wickets in T20Is.
Deandra Dottin has returned from international retirement and is now available for selection by the West Indies. This comes nearly two years after she unexpectedly retired while leading Barbados at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Before the upcoming T20 World Cup, it is a huge boost for the team.
Her comeback to international cricket just before the major tournament is a big positive sign for the nation. She has written a letter to the board regarding her decision. She wrote, “Representing West Indies in international cricket has always been a matter of great pride and passion for me. After a period of reflection and thoughtful dialogue with various parties within Cricket West Indies, including Cricket West Indies President, Dr. Kishore Shallow, I am pleased to inform you that I am eager to return to the game that I love, and contribute my utmost to the West Indies women’s team across all formats, with immediate effect.”
Later she added, “I am confident that my experience, maturity, and skills will add value to the team as it has done in the past, and I am prepared to furnish my best efforts in every match and training session to ensure the team’s winning trajectory in international cricket. Moreover, I am enthusiastic about mentoring younger players and contributing to the overall development of women’s cricket in our region.”
As the player is coming out of retirement, the West Indies Cricket Board has welcomed her decision. CWI director of cricket Miles Bascombe praised the decision of Dorrin and is hopeful about her significant contribution to the T20 World Cup squad. He said, “Deandra is a player of immense ability and experience.”
Later he said, “We are pleased with her decision to return to international cricket and be eligible for selection. There is no doubt that she could add significant value to the West Indies Women’s teams.”
