In a setback for the Indian cricket team, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is expected to sit out of the upcoming World Cup match against England in Lucknow, slated for October 29. This news comes following Pandya’s recent left ankle injury, which forced him to miss the high-stakes match against New Zealand in Dharamsala, and it appears that he won’t be fit in time for the England encounter.
BCCI Official said
While Pandya’s ankle injury is reportedly not severe, the team management is exercising caution, preferring not to rush his return. A BCCI official confirmed the situation, stating, “Yes, Hardik is likely to miss the next match vs England in Lucknow. It is more of a precaution at this stage and nothing serious.”
The 30-year-old all-rounder did not accompany the team to Dharamsala, following advice from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team, who recommended rest for his injury. It is expected that Pandya will rejoin the team before their match against Sri Lanka in Mumbai.
India has maintained an impressive winning streak in the ongoing World Cup, having won their last match against New Zealand. In Pandya’s absence, the team made two significant changes for the New Zealand clash, with Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav joining the playing XI and Shardul Thakur on the bench. This tactical shift proved successful, as Mohammed Shami delivered an outstanding performance, securing a five-wicket haul. Unfortunately, Suryakumar Yadav was run out early in the innings.
