Team India skipper Rohit Sharma took the opportunity during a pre-match press conference to address questions regarding Rahul’s future in Test cricket, especially after his injury struggles.
KL Rahul’s Injury and Recent Form
KL Rahul has faced challenges since suffering an injury during the England tour of India series, specifically in the Hyderabad Test match. This setback limited his opportunities to showcase his skills on the international stage. However, Rohit Sharma remains optimistic about Rahul’s potential to return to form and contribute significantly to the team.
“There are only a handful of people in world cricket who’ve had a smooth ride. We all have to understand what is expected. The kind of quality KL has, everybody knows about it,” Rohit stated. He emphasized the importance of providing clear communication and opportunities for Rahul to regain his best form.
KL Rahul’s recent performance in the Duleep Trophy has sparked renewed hope among Indian cricket fans as he seeks to reclaim his spot in the national team. Despite facing challenges due to injuries, Rahul showcased his talent with a solid fifty in the first round of the tournament, signaling his readiness to contribute to the Indian squad.
Playing for India A against India B, KL Rahul scored 57 runs in the second innings, demonstrating his ability to anchor the batting lineup. Coming in at a critical moment when India A was struggling at 51/2, his innings became even more crucial as wickets fell rapidly around him. He managed to hold his ground and formed a valuable partnership with Kuldeep Yadav, adding 42 runs for the seventh wicket before being dismissed by Mukesh Kumar.
Although India A ultimately lost the match by 76 runs, Rahul’s performance was a bright spot in an otherwise challenging outing. His innings included seven boundaries and showcased his capability to build an innings under pressure, which is essential for any player aiming to solidify their position in Test cricket.

Rohit highlighted that despite the recent setbacks, Rahul’s talent is undeniable. “Now he is back; he got a hundred in South Africa. Then he got injured. It is there for us to see, the guy has got the talent,” he said, reinforcing the belief that with consistent chances, Rahul can thrive in red-ball cricket.
The skipper expressed his desire for Rahul to play all games and bring out his best performance. “It is important we give him opportunities. I don’t see any reason why he can’t flourish in Test cricket,” Rohit added.
