India’s U-19 World Cup Winning Captain Yash Dhull Undergoes Heart Surgery After Routine Scan Detects Hole in Heart

Yash Dhull, who led India to victory in the 2022 U-19 World Cup, recently underwent minor heart surgery after a routine scan revealed a small hole in his heart. The discovery was made during an Under-23 high-performance camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Rajesh Nagar, who has been coaching Dhull for over a decade, confirmed the news. According to Nagar, the surgery took place in the first half of July, and although it was not a major procedure, Dhull needed 10 to 15 days to recover. Nagar noted that while Dhull is not yet fully back to his peak fitness, he is around 80% fit and capable of performing on the field.

“It was a small hole that had been present since birth, but it was only detected during the recent scans,” Nagar explained, expressing confidence that Dhull would soon return to his best form.

Currently, Dhull is participating in the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL), playing for Central Delhi Kings. Despite the recent surgery, he has managed to score 93 runs in five innings, with his highest score being 52, and a strike rate of 113.41.

At just 21 years old, Dhull has already experienced significant highs and lows in his cricket career. After leading India to an U-19 World Cup title, he made a strong First-Class debut for Delhi in February 2022, scoring two centuries against Tamil Nadu. However, his journey hasn’t been without challenges, including being dropped as Delhi’s Ranji Trophy captain earlier this year after a loss to Puducherry.

While Dhull has also represented India A, concerns over his technique have kept him out of the selectors’ radar. In the IPL, Dhull has had limited opportunities, featuring in just four games for Delhi Capitals.

Despite these setbacks, Dhull remains a promising talent in Indian cricket, and his recovery from the surgery will be closely watched by fans and selectors alike.
