All-rounder Shivam Dube has been called up to India’s T20I squad for the ongoing series against England. Dube, who was part of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team, will replace injured all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. He is set to join the squad in Rajkot ahead of the third match of the series.
Reddy, who played in the first T20I, has been sidelined due to an injury. Though he took two catches in the game, he neither bowled nor batted, raising concerns about his fitness.
Shivam Dube recently returned to action after recovering from a back injury that kept him out of the early stages of the Ranji Trophy. He featured in Mumbai’s match against Jammu and Kashmir but had a forgettable outing. He registered ducks in both innings. Mumbai suffered a shocking defeat in the game.
However, Dube showcased his capabilities in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 151 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 179.76. His all-round contributions helped Mumbai lift the title.
Dube was a key member of India’s squad during their successful 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. He scored 133 runs in the tournament, including a crucial 27-run knock in the final against South Africa.
Dube last played for India during a T20 series against Sri Lanka in July 2024. He scored 13 runs in the lone match he played during the series.
India kicked off the five-match T20I series against England in style. They won the first game at Ede Gardens by 7 wickets. Abhishek Sharma scored a quickfire 34-ball 79. India chased down England’s target of 133 with 43 balls to spare.
The second T20I is set to take place on January 25 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
