Shivam Dube talks about his match winning knock in the post match interview

In the thrilling opening match of the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, Shivam Dube showcased his all-round skills to guide India to a six-wicket victory. Dube’s unbeaten 60 off 40 balls played a pivotal role in India’s successful chase of 159, earning him the Man of the Match award.

Reflecting on his performance, Dube expressed his delight at making a comeback to the Indian side and emphasized the importance of the opportunity given to him. He said, “It (This innings) holds a special place in my heart as I’ve made a comeback to the Indian side after a considerable time. The opportunity given to me was crucial, and I felt a deep sense of importance.”

Describing his experience during the innings, Dube mentioned, “In a T20I game, especially during a chase, every batsman aims to finish the game, and I’m elated that I could achieve that for my team. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the crease. Initially, I struggled to grip the bat properly, but after a couple of deliveries, I found my rhythm and settled in.”

Speaking about the team’s support, Dube added, “My captain, coach, and fellow players were genuinely pleased. Rohit said – keep playing this way, be positive in your game, and we know you can score from anywhere and win us the game. He said keep playing like this.”

Dube also highlighted the joyous atmosphere in the team, saying, “At that moment, I forgot about the chilly winter; I was completely absorbed in the game. The joyous atmosphere was palpable, with everyone expressing their happiness and commending my innings.”

Apart from his batting heroics, Dube also made a significant contribution with the ball, picking up a wicket while conceding just nine runs in his two overs. His all-round performance was instrumental in India’s comprehensive victory.

Looking ahead, India will aim to carry this momentum into the second T20I in Indore and the third T20I in Bengaluru on January 17. With Dube’s confidence and form on display, the Indian team will be eager to continue their winning streak in the series.
