“This time we will break” Harmanpreet Kaur Confident India Can Win Maiden ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Title

The cricket world is now all set to witness another T20 World Cup. ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is all set to take place in UAE from October 4. Because of the ongoing political tension in Bangladesh, the high-voltage tournament has now shifted to the UAE. ahead of the tournament, BCCI has already named their 15-member squad for the tournament. Before stepping into the tournament, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur is eyeing their maiden T20 World Cup Trophy. 

BCCI Named Their 15-Member Squad:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the 15-member squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the team, with Smriti Mandhana as her deputy. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are their best option for opening the innings, while Dayalan Hemalatha provides another top-order option. Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, and Richa Ghosh will also play key roles in boosting the team’s performance.

The bowling lineup includes Pooja Vastrakar, Renuka Singh, Deepti Sharma, Radha Yadav, Sajana Sajeevan, Asha Sobhana, and Shreyanka Patil. Yashtika Bhatia returns to the squad after a long absence. However, there are concerns regarding the fitness of Yashtika Bhatia and Shreyanka Patil, as their participation depends on fitness clearance.

Harmanpreet Kaur on Upcoming Big Challenge:

In women’s cricket, India women’s team grabbed some incredible success in recent times. But the T20 World Cup trophy is still far from them. In the past, even after showcasing some dedicated performances, they couldn’t lift the trophy. This time, Team India is high on confidence. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur is looking forward to a successful campaign. 

While talking about their goal, she said, “Whenever we play on this kind of stage (World Cup), we always want to do well. We have always done well in the past as well, and hopefully, this time we will break that final barrier and go all the way.”

Reflecting on Conditions:

Earlier the T20 World Cup campaign was set to take place in Bangladesh. But with the ongoing tension within the country, the tournament got a new venue. The UAE is all set to host the tournament. The condition of the new venue can be different but the team is optimistic about the upcoming challenges.

While talking about this, he said, “We have not played much cricket in the UAE. But the conditions in the UAE are going to be similar to Indian conditions. We will see how the conditions play out (there) and try to adjust ourselves to the conditions as soon as possible.”

On the Positive Goal:

In recent times, India’s women’s team has been high on success. From dominating the opponent to registering consecutive wins, they got all it covered. But they are yet to lift their maiden T20 World Cup trophy. This time they are confident about that. 

While talking about this, he said, “As a team, we learn from our defeats and break those barriers that are pushing us back. Hopefully this time we can express ourselves in a more positive way in the World Cup.”

Later he added, “It is always important for us to play good cricket, keeping ourselves in the present. Whatever the situation is in front of us…we go there and evaluate (it) as soon as possible.”
