The final of the World Test Championship between Australia and India, which will start on June 7 at the Oval in London, has everyone extremely excited for the World Test Championship 2023. It will be the second straight World Tennis Championship final to be held in England after India and New Zealand squared off in the final in Southampton in 2021.
Wasim Akram, a former Pakistani seamer, has some advice for Indian bowlers before the big match. The renowned left-arm fast bowler has counseled the Indian seamers not to overuse the new ball and not to gift Australia additional runs.
Wasim Akram said
“These guys are experienced, and they shouldn’t get carried away (with the new ball). We all know it swings for 10 to 15 overs, so don’t give away extra runs in the first 10 to 15 overs as a fast bowler. (Early on) don’t get too excited if there is a bit of bounce as that is what the Australians want,” Wasim spoke while talking to ICC.
Further, Akram stated that while the Oval surface often advantages teams from the sub-continent, he is unable to anticipate how the pitch will behave because the June Test will be played there for the first time.
“This pitch normally favours teams from the sub-continent, but whenever we toured here… it was always at the end of August or start of September. This one is in June, the square is different, fresh square, and the ball is different altogether as a Dukes,” he added.
Notably, Wasim Akram is the top boaster with a staggering 414 wickets in 104 Test matches. He picked up 6/67 in the first innings of the fifth and final Test of the series in 1992, recording his best-ever Test figures in England at the Oval. His incredible bowling performance enabled his team to win the series 2-1.
India and Australia are currently finishing up their final-game preparations and figuring out the best team combinations for the championship game. India has the advantage over Australia after defeating them in the previous four Test series, but because they won’t have great players Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, Australia will have a significant advantage.
