Rayudu shares a heartfelt message on Twitter
Sharing his decision on his official Twitter account, Rayudu expressed gratitude to the two teams he represented, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, and the fans who have supported him throughout his IPL journey. With 204 matches, 14 seasons, 11 playoffs, 8 finals, and 5 trophies to his name, Rayudu hopes to end his remarkable IPL career on a high note with a sixth championship title as his team, the Chennai Super Kings face the Gujarat Titans in the season finale of IPL 2023 on Sunday, May 28.

Rayudu’s IPL journey began with the Mumbai Indians in 2010, and it was with them that he experienced his first taste of success, winning the tournament in 2013. He went on to secure two more titles with the Mumbai Indians in 2015 and 2017 before donning the iconic yellow jersey of CSK in 2018.
An illustrious IPL career
Playing under the leadership of MS Dhoni, Rayudu flourished as a power-hitter during his tenure with CSK. His debut season with the franchise in 2018 proved to be his most productive, as he scored 602 runs in 16 matches with an impressive strike rate of 149.75. Notably, it was also the season when CSK clinched the title for the third time.
Rayudu continued to be a valuable asset for CSK, contributing to their title-winning campaign in 2021 with a strike rate of 151.17 in 16 matches. However, the following year proved to be challenging for both Rayudu and the Super Kings, as the team finished 9th in the table. Rayudu even announced his retirement mid-season, only to reconsider and continue representing the side.
Struggles in the 2023 season
In the ongoing 2023 season, Rayudu’s individual performances may have been inconsistent, but his unwavering commitment and MS Dhoni’s trust kept him in the playing eleven for all 15 matches. With 139 runs to his name and a strike rate of 132.28, Rayudu’s contributions have been crucial in the team’s journey to the final.
As Rayudu bids farewell to the IPL, his legacy as a powerful middle-order batsman and a valuable team member will be cherished by fans and cricket enthusiasts alike. His journey, marked by ups and downs, showcases the resilience and determination that define the spirit of IPL cricket.
The final match against the Gujarat Titans will not only be an opportunity for Rayudu to leave a lasting impression but also a moment for fans to reflect on the memorable innings and the indelible impact he has had on the IPL. Ambati Rayudu’s retirement marks the end of an eventful chapter in the annals of IPL history, leaving a void that will be difficult to fill.
