2025 ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup Schedule Announced, Malaysia to Host

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the schedule for the second edition of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2, 2025. The tournament will feature 16 teams, including defending champions India.

Tournament Structure and Schedule

In the group stage of the tournament, teams will compete in a round-robin format, playing three matches each. 

The top three teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Super Six stage, where they will carry over their points, wins, and net run rates from the group matches. 

The Super Six stage will determine the four semi-finalists, with the top two teams from each group moving on.

The semi-finals are set for January 31, and the final will take place on February 2 at Bayuemas Oval, Selangor.

The 16 teams are divided into these groups:

Group A: India, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Malaysia

Group B: England, Pakistan, Ireland, USA

Group C: New Zealand, South Africa, 

Africa Qualifier, Samoa

Group D: Australia, Bangladesh, Asia Qualifier, Scotland

Hosts and Key Venues

Malaysia is hosting an ICC World Cup event for the first time. The matches will be held at four main venues:

Bayuemas Oval, Selangor: Group A matches, semi-finals, and the final.

Dato’ Dr. Harjit Singh Johor Cricket Academy (JCA Oval), Johor: Group B matches.

Borneo Cricket Ground, Sarawak: Group C matches.

UKM YSD Oval, Selangor: Group D matches.

The 2025 tournament is historic for Samoa as they make their debut in an ICC World Cup event.

 Malaysia will also make their first appearance, competing in Group A with India, West Indies, and Sri Lanka

The tournament starts with six matches on January 18. India, the defending champions, will play their first game on January 19 against the West Indies at Bayuemas Oval. This match is important as India aims to begin their title defence with a win.

This opening match is crucial for India as they aim to make a strong start in their title defence.

Other key opening games include Australia vs. Scotland, England vs. Ireland, and New Zealand vs. South Africa.

Super Six Stage and Final Matches

The Super Six stage starts on January 25, where the top three teams from each group will be split into two new groups. 

Group 1 will have the top teams from Groups A and D, while Group 2 will consist of the top teams from Groups B and C. Teams will carry forward their points and stats from the group stage, making every match even more important.

The semi-finals and final will take place at Bayuemas Oval, with the final scheduled for February 2. If India reaches the semi-finals, they will play in the second semi-final on January 31 at 14:30 local time.

Milestone Tournament Boosts Women’s Cricket

The upcoming 2025 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup is set to be a major event for women’s cricket, following the success of its first edition. 

ICC CEO Geoff Allardice stressed its significance in the ICC’s Global Growth Strategy, emphasising its role in advancing women’s cricket worldwide.

Dinesh Muthuraman, the tournament director for Malaysia, expressed pride in hosting the event. Initially planned to be co-hosted with Thailand, Malaysia will now hold all the matches due to Thailand’s withdrawal.

With 41 matches over 15 days, this tournament promises exciting action and highlights the future stars of women’s cricket, boosting the sport’s global profile
