Bangladesh pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman has received a one-day extension from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This allows him to play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their crucial clash against the Punjab Kings on May 1st.
The left-arm pacer has been a revelation for CSK this season, making a significant impact in his short time with the franchise. Mustafizur has already bagged 10 wickets in just five matches, showcasing his bowling prowess and becoming a key member of the CSK bowling attack.
BCB Extends Leave for Mustafizur
Initially, the BCB had issued a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for Mustafizur to remain in the IPL only until April 30th. However, recognizing his contribution to CSK and the importance of the upcoming match, the board has granted him a one-day extension.
“Mustafizur was supposed to return after April 30 but now we have allowed him to stay back for their match on May 1st,” confirmed a BCB official to Cricbuzz. “He is expected to arrive on May 2nd for the T20 series against Zimbabwe (from May 3rd to 12th).”
Focus on World Cup Preparation
While Mustafizur will miss the opening T20I against Zimbabwe, the BCB prioritizes his rest and preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup. “We are not ready to release him after the Zimbabwe series as we want to rest him for a few days before the World Cup,” the official added.
Following the Zimbabwe series, Bangladesh will play a three-match T20I series against the United States of America from May 21st to 25th. This series holds particular significance, as two of Bangladesh’s four group-stage matches at the T20 World Cup will be held in the USA. These matches against the USA will allow the team to acclimatize to the conditions they will encounter during the World Cup.
Mustafizur’s Return and World Cup Focus
Mustafizur’s return to the Bangladesh squad is expected on May 2nd. He will then participate in the remaining T20Is against Zimbabwe and the USA series before the BCB prioritizes his rest for the crucial T20 World Cup.
This one-day extension allows Mustafizur to fulfil his IPL commitments with CSK and potentially play a vital role in their upcoming match against the Punjab Kings. While he will miss the opening T20I against Zimbabwe, the BCB’s decision reflects their focus on ensuring Mustafizur is well-rested and prepared to contribute significantly to Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup campaign.
