Virat Kohli Confirms He Will Play 2027 World Cup, Aims to End India’s 16-Year Title Drought

Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli has officially confirmed his availability for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup, expressing his desire to end India’s long wait for another world title.

Virat Kohli has once again proven his commitment to Indian cricket by confirming that he will be available for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. The 36-year-old star batter made this exciting revelation during a recent event in Mumbai, giving fans new hope for the future.

When asked about the “next big step” in his career, Kohli responded with a smile, “Maybe try to win the next World Cup.” His answer was met with loud applause and cheers, showing just how much fans still believe in his leadership and passion.

Kohli Eyes Another ICC Trophy

After India’s heartbreaking loss to Australia in the 2023 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Kohli is determined to bring home the trophy in 2027. He was the leading run-scorer in the 2023 edition, but despite his strong performance, India couldn’t clinch the title.

India last won the ODI World Cup in 2011 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Since then, the Men in Blue have made it to the semi-finals in 2015 and 2019, and the final in 2023, but couldn’t lift the trophy. Kohli now wants to change that.

Recent Form and Motivation

Though Kohli had a tough tour of Australia, where he managed only 190 runs in nine innings during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he bounced back in style during the Champions Trophy. He scored a century against Pakistan and played a crucial 84-run knock against Australia in the semi-final, silencing his critics.

Speaking about the Australia tour, Kohli admitted, “It was disappointing. I kept getting out in the same way. It stays with you because you don’t get many chances to correct it later.”

Despite stepping away from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup, Kohli is far from done in the ODI format and wants to end his career on a high by winning one more ICC trophy.

Strong Start in IPL 2025

Kohli has also started the IPL 2025 season on a good note for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He has already scored 90 runs in two matches, including a half-century against the Kolkata Knight Riders, showing that he’s still in top form.
