Shreyas Iyer is all set to be back in the BCCI annual contracts this year after his prolific contributions in recent times. The Punjab Kings captain who was left out of the BCCI central contracts last year, reportedly will be considered for the same in the revised contracts.
Last year Shreyas Iyer failed to make it to the board’s contract list despite his heroics in the ODI World Cup 2023 as he did not follow the BCCI’s domestic cricket directive. Along with him Ishan Kishan was also left out of the list. “Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations,” the BCCI said in an official statement. However, for Shreyas Iyer, things are about to change after his consistent good performance for the Indian cricket team.
Shreyas Iyer became the highest run-scorer for India in their victorious ICC Champions Trophy campaign with 243 runs from five games. Also, in his last Ranji Trophy appearance, Shreyas scored 480 runs from five matches for Mumbai, averaging 68.57. He was also the fourth-highest run-getter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 345 runs to his name. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored 325 runs from just five games at a staggering average of 325.00. No wonder, the board is going to reconsider his name this year for the central contracts.
Meanwhile, BCCI sources claimed, “Shreyas Iyer is all set to be back in central contract,” as per ANI reports. It further added, “Rohit and Virat will continue their A grade central contract (7 crore) even after retiring from T20I format. They are big players and will be accorded the respect they deserve.”
According to the reports, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be retaining their A+ category despite retiring from the T20Is. Last year, the contract was awarded to only Kohli, Rohit, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah. Generally, this category is for the players who represent India in all formats.
