During the first day’s play of the ongoing Test match against England in Hyderabad, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma showcased his class by scoring 24 runs in a brief yet impactful innings. In the process, he achieved a significant milestone, surpassing legendary Indian captain Sourav Ganguly to become the fourth-highest run-scorer in international cricket.

Special Feat Against England

Rohit’s 24-run knock, which included three boundaries, played a crucial role in India’s strong start. Opening the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit added an impressive 80 runs for the first wicket. His innings was cut short by English spinner Jack Leach in the 13th over, caught by Ben Stokes.

With this innings, Rohit Sharma now has a total of 18,444 runs in 468 matches for India across all formats. This accomplishment places him ahead of Sourav Ganguly’s tally of 18,433 runs. Rohit’s international runs are distributed as follows: 3974 runs in 151 T20Is, 10709 runs in 262 ODIs, and 3761 runs in 55 Tests.

Sourav Ganguly, an iconic figure in Indian cricket, amassed 18,433 runs in 421 matches for India. His contributions included 7212 runs in 113 Tests and 11,221 runs in 308 ODIs. Notably, Ganguly did not play any T20Is for India. Rohit’s achievement is a testament to his consistency and impact across all three formats of the game.

Elite Company in International Cricket

Rohit Sharma now stands as the fourth-highest run-scorer in international cricket, behind only the legendary trio of Sachin Tendulkar (34,257 runs), Virat Kohli (26,733 runs), and the current head coach of the Indian team, Rahul Dravid (24,064 runs). This accomplishment reflects Rohit’s stature as one of India’s batting stalwarts.
