Tata IPL 2023: KKR skipper Nitish Rana fined after a nail biting win against PBKS

However, the euphoria of the win was short-lived for KKR captain Nitish Rana, who received a severe blow after being found guilty of violating the IPL Code of Conduct, resulting in him facing the consequences of his actions.

Fine imposed on Rana

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has levied a fine of INR 12 lakh on Nitish Rana, the esteemed captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), for breaching the over-rate regulations during their encounter against Punjab Kings in the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Notably, this is the first time in the current season that KKR has been found guilty of tardiness in completing their overs.

“Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Rana was fined Rs. 12 lakh.”, an official statement issued by the IPL after the game read. 

A last ball win for KKR

The captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) proved his mettle on Monday by leading the team to a hard-fought victory in pursuit of 180 runs. Playing at number 3, he showcased his outstanding batting skills, smashing a brilliant 38-ball 51, including six boundaries and a six, which set the tone for the chase. Notably, he forged a vital partnership of over fifty runs with Venkatesh Iyer, laying a solid foundation for Andre Russell and Rinku Singh to finish the job.

With 51 runs required off just 24 balls, the pressure was on Andre Russell and Singh to take KKR over the finish line. Russell kickstarted the proceedings by striking a boundary on the first delivery of the 17th over, and then Singh followed suit by blasting a massive six over the square leg fence, accumulating 15 crucial runs in the process. In a nail-biting finish, KKR required two runs off the final ball, and it was Rinku Singh who delivered the killer blow by hitting a four to seal the remarkable win for KKR.
