In a stride towards bolstering its sporting infrastructure, the city of Visakhapatnam is poised to witness the foundation stone laying ceremony for a state-of-the-art international cricket stadium. Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy announced this visionary development, which is slated to take place in the coming months. The new stadium will be sprawling across a vast expanse of 25 acres, ushering in a new era of sporting excellence.

Search for land begins

Additionally, the search is underway to identify a suitable plot of land for the construction of an integrated sports complex. This complex aims to serve as a hub for various sports events, consolidating the city’s prowess in hosting diverse sporting competitions under one roof. YSR Congress Party regional coordinator YV Subba Reddy revealed these exciting prospects, underscoring the government’s commitment to elevating the sports landscape of the region.

The announcement came on the heels of a dynamic event that saw YV Subba Reddy flagging off a spirited 4K run on the picturesque Visakhapatnam Beach Road. The run was conducted in conjunction with the Andhra Premier League (APL), a cricket extravaganza scheduled to take place from August 16. Reddy highlighted that standout performances in the APL could potentially open doors for promising players to make their mark on the grand stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Addressing a significant review meeting centred around the “Adudam Andhra” program, a comprehensive initiative aimed at nurturing sports and games talents up to the national level, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy reiterated his vision for fostering a culture of sports excellence across Andhra Pradesh.

He underscored the commitment of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in supporting and nurturing cricket talents within the state. To this end, Chief Minister Reddy proposed the establishment of cricket academies in strategic locations, including Kadapa, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, and Mangalagiri.

The “Adudam Andhra” program emerged as a cornerstone in the government’s agenda, spotlighting the significance of sports and games in the region’s growth narrative.
