Give credit to Hardik, not Rohit, commentators argue

Rohit Sharma’s mastermind is being appreciated by most of the fans and experts behind MI’s major win against DC. Karn Sharma’s introduction turned the match in Mumbai’s favour and even the broadcaster could not stop praising Rohit for the decision. However, commentators insisted that Hardik Pandya should give the main credit for this as the team captain.

Why is Rohit being credited?

Karn Sharma singlehandedly turned the match in MI’s favour. He took three important wickets in the middle overs that eventually became the turning point in the game against Delhi. Mumbai’s 12-run win against Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 helped them return to the winning ways after many heartbreaks. Rohit Sharma, former MI captain was given credit for bringing in Karn Sharma with the new ball. Even Star Sports, broadcaster of the IPL credited Rohit for introducing impact player Karn Sharma at that point. Rohit, who was substitute for Karn was seen discussing the change with MI’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey before approaching the head coach Mahela Jayawardene. All these eventually led to everyone giving credit to Rohit for the win.

However, the commentators refused to do so. Sanjay Banger and Sanjay Manjrekar had different point of views. They insisted that credit should be given to the captain. Sanjay Bangar said, “The credit behind the victory went to Rohit Sharma, but it should’ve been Karn Sharma and Hardik Pandya. While Karn was the one executed, Hardik gave instructions.”

Manjrekar explained in detail, “There are many people who are there to give suggestions but it all depends on the person in the middle who has to take the decision. He (Hardik) listened to the advice (from Rohit) is the biggest thing. If you give Rohit credit here as well and not Hardik Pandya, it would be the wrong thing. If the suggestion had failed, you would’ve blamed Hardik. It’s quite easy to give suggestions from outside. The entire credit for this (victory), should go to Hardik Pandya.”
Manjrekar added, “Considering how emotional he has been (over Mumbai’s recent results), it was an important win for him. It has been quite a difficult journey for him. Would be wrong if social media and others say that Mumbai Indians won because of Rohit Sharma’s suggestions. Hardik Pandya is the captain, and he is the one taking decisions, no matter who is giving suggestions.”
