KoIndian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has clinched the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for March 2025 after a stellar campaign in India’s triumphant Champions Trophy journey in the UAE.
The 30-year-old right-hander emerged as the leading run-scorer in the tournament, tallying 243 runs through the course of India’s unbeaten run to the title. He played critical innings against New Zealand in the group stages and in the final, showcasing his calm temperament under pressure.
In Group A, Iyer played a composed knock of 79 off 98 balls against New Zealand, helping India post 250 on a tricky Dubai pitch. His innings included four boundaries and two sixes, setting the tone for India’s campaign.
Iyer continued his form in the semi-finals, scoring 45 runs off 62 balls in India’s chase against Australia. In the final, he once again anchored the innings with a mature 48 off 62 balls, taking India to a comfortable win over New Zealand and securing the Champions Trophy.
His consistency through the middle overs, particularly his partnership-building ability alongside Virat Kohli and Axar Patel, proved crucial in India’s title win.
Reacting to the recognition, Iyer expressed gratitude in an official ICC release. “I’m truly honored to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March. This recognition is incredibly special, especially in a month where we lifted the ICC Champions Trophy — a moment I will cherish forever,” he said.
He added, “Being able to contribute to India’s success on such a big stage is something every cricketer dreams of. I’m grateful to my teammates, coaches, and support staff for their unwavering support and belief.”
Iyer also thanked fans for their continued encouragement. “A heartfelt thank you to the fans as well — your energy and encouragement keep us going every step of the way,” he added.
With 172 runs in three matches in March alone, averaging 57.33 and a steady strike rate of 77.47, Iyer’s form re-established his importance in India’s middle-order ahead of the T20 World Cup 2025.
