It was time for the ‘Whistle-podu’ gang to be alive again as Chennai Super Kings finally broke their losing streak and came up on top of the in-form Lucknow Super Giants. MS Dhoni, the CSK captain, was instrumental with the bat and the gloves and won the POTM award.

Long losing streak

Chennai Super Kings were constantly losing games in IPL 2025. In the six games played before the match, they had won only one. That game was their first in the season as they defeated arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.

Since then, they have had a terrible record as they lost 5 matches back-to-back. It was the longest losing streak for the team. They also lost 3 consecutive home games, a first for the franchise.

Finally a win

The match against LSG brought smiles to CSK fans. They finally ceased their descent and registered a win with the efforts of Dhoni, Dube, Ravindra and Shaik Rasheed. Earlier, they had restricted LSG to a total of 166/7 in 20 overs.

Vintage Dhoni

For the Dhoni fans, it was a treat to remember. He came to bat at the end of the fifteenth over when Vijay Shankar was dismissed. CSK seemed to be in a bit of trouble, as the required run rate was skyrocketing. However, Dhoni showed his capabilities and started finding boundaries right away.

He went on to score 26* off just 11 deliveries. He hit 4 boundaries and 1 six to take his team to victory. The quick cameo at the strike rat of 236.36 ensured that CSK did not lose another game.

POTM award

For his efforts with the bat and gloves, Dhoni was adjudged the Player of the Match. He was crucial in ensuring CSK’s win, as at one point, they seemed to be drifting apart from the target. He became the oldest player to win the award in IPL history. He also holds the record for the most POTM awards for a captain at 16. Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir hold the second spot with 13 awards each. Virat Kohli is the next on the listv with 11 awards.
