Mumbai Indians have been the most successful franchise in the history of the IPL. The franchise has been known for its astute management and has the ability to groom young players into future superstars.
Hamanpreet Kaur was bought by Mumbai Indians at a price of INR 1.80 crore in the WPL 2023 auction. She was named the captain of the team and was very emotional to be a part of the franchise.
“It’s a very emotional moment for me. I’ve seen Mumbai Indians do so well on TV. And now, I’m going to be a part of it. I think it’s a great achievement and I am really looking forward to be part of this team.”
Rohit Sharma has led the Mumbai Indians to the IPL glory for five times. He has won matches for the side from the jaws of defeat due to his captaincy. Harmanpreet Kaur who is named as the captain of the women’s franchise is keen to follow the legacy of Rohit Sharma and help Mumbai Indians win the tournament.
“I will also try to follow the same legacy. We will also let the winning momentum keep going on. The way Rohit’s team was doing. That aggressive cricket they were playing.”
She further said that she would enjoy herself on the field and would give 100% for the franchise.
“The most important thing is we will just go there (and) enjoy. This is a great moment for all the cricketers and we just want to be there give our 100% and just try to win all matches for Mumbai Indians.”
“Well, I always try to be very aggressive on the field. When you show that aggression, the opposite team is always under pressure. For me, it’s very important that I should support each and every player from my team and play some aggressive cricket.”
Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her gratitude as she would be working with some of the greats like Jhulan Goswami and Charlotte Edwards. She is looking forward to learning a lot from Charlotte Edwards.
“I feel lucky that I’m again going to work with Jhulu Di (Jhulan Goswami). (Charlotte) Edwards is someone who did really well for England cricket. I’ve heard she is very, very calm and a very good coach. I’m sure I will learn a lot of things from her,” Kaur concluded.
