Shubman Gill has his sights set on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Indian batter grew up watching the tournament as a fan. However, he will now compete for the silverware himself.

In a recent promotional video by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Gill reflected on India’s last Champions Trophy victory in 2013. He recalled the iconic moment when MS Dhoni jumped in celebration after Ravi Ashwin bowled the final ball, securing the win for India.

“Whenever I think of that Champions Trophy (2013), a couple of things I remember—one is Mahi Bhai jumping after the final ball and everyone dancing in the white coat when they were getting that Trophy,” Gill shared.

This time, he won’t just be a spectator. He’s already been named in India’s squad and is gearing up for the challenge.

Under Fire, But Focused on Redemption

Gill hasn’t had the best run with the bat lately. His Test form has been shaky, with inconsistent performances raising questions about his place in the team. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Test form has seen him being selected for India’s Champions Trophy Squad. Reports state that many former cricketers want Jaiswal to open alongside Rohit Sharma.

Sharpening His Skills in the Nets

A recent training video shows Gill batting fluently in the nets. He played an elegant pull shot for four, followed by some solid defensive strokes. He looks determined to silence his critics with strong performances.

The upcoming ODI series against England is crucial. It’s a chance for Gill to prove his worth and cement his place in India’s playing XI for the Champions Trophy.

Gill’s Ranji Trophy campaign was a mixed bag. He played a lone warrior’s role for Punjab, scoring a magnificent century despite his team struggling. This knock was a much-needed boost after his underwhelming performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
