Sussex have signed Australian fast bowler Gurinder Sandhu for the 2025 season. The 31-year-old will be available for four County matches in June and July. He could also feature in the T20 Vitality Blast if needed.
Sandhu has played 55 first-class matches. He has 151 wickets to his name. The fast bowler has also represented Australia in two ODIs.
Sandhu’s signing comes as a cover for Jaydev Unadkat, who was initially signed on a two-year deal. The Indian left-arm seamer was expected to be available throughout the season. However, he will now only feature in Sussex’s final three red-ball matches in September.
This adjustment left Sussex in need of a skilled seamer for the early summer fixtures. Sandhu’s familiarity with the Kookaburra ball, used in all four of Sussex’s upcoming County Championship games, makes him an ideal fit.
Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace expressed his delight at the signing.
“We are delighted that Gurinder has decided to join us for the four County Championship matches in June and July. He will add real skill and experience to our bowling attack for those games.”, he said.
Farbrace emphasized Sandhu’s ability with the ball.
“He is a vastly experienced performer and is very skillful with the ball. The fact that all four games are being played with a Kookaburra ball means he will be very comfortable with that type of ball.”, he added.
Sandhu is eager to make an impact at Hove. The Australian pacer is looking forward to playing both red-ball and white-ball cricket.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Sussex Cricket Club and can’t wait to step out onto the field at Hove. I’m looking forward to contributing to the team in both the red and white ball formats and experiencing the rich cricketing traditions Sussex is known for.”, he said.
