The twelfth match of IPL 2025 features the Mumbai Indians (MI) facing off against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Winning an important toss, Mumbai Indians’ captain Hardik Pandya has elected to bowl first, citing dew as a possible factor. However, the big news ahead of the match is the absence of Mujeeb ur Rahman from the MI playing XI. Will Jacks is back in the team.

Mumbai Indians Opt to Bowl First at Wankhded

Hardik Pandya, leading the Mumbai Indians, cited the prospect of dew coming in later as the reason behind his decision to bowl first. He mentioned that the wicket looks good, and they’ll get an idea about the wicket by bowling first. It might also swing a bit early on, and that can be useful to them. “Knowing Wankhede, dew may or may not come in. There might be some early swing, it plays well so we thought chasing is a good option. We want to get into good rhythm and kickstart. Overall, we want to play better cricket, we need to stay calm,” Pandya mentioned at the toss.

Mumbai Indians is playing with key bowlers like Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar and Hardik in their lineup. Ashwani Kumar is making his debut for the franchise.

Rahane hopes to score a big target

Ajinkya Rahane, captaining the MI side, mentioned that it was a good toss to lose. He was confused about whether to bat or bowl. Rahane believes that dew will no be an issue with the breeze coming in. “There’s a little breeze going on, no dew factor to deal with. We will look to post a good total on the board and I have confidence in our bowlers to defend. We are playing good cricket, every games gives a good opportunity to play good cricket,” Rahane said.

Why Mujeeb ur Rahman is not playing today

Mumbai Indians have made two changes in the team. Most notably, spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman misses out from the playing XI. Wankhede is not known to support spinners. With the MI side already playing Mitchell Santner, Mujeeb has been dropped. Will Jacks has been brought in as another foreign player. Bowler Ashwani Kumar makes a debut for the team.
