Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has expressed his concern over Harry Brook’s withdrawal from the upcoming five-match Test series against India, which is set to commence on January 25 in Hyderabad. Brook, who was part of the English contingent in Dubai for an 11-day camp, has returned to England due to personal reasons, leaving a void in England’s batting lineup.
The 24-year-old cited personal issues for his departure and requested privacy from the media and the public. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has respected Brook’s privacy and stated that a replacement for him will be announced soon, with the first Test just days away.
“Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men’s Test tour of India. The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space. The England selectors will confirm a replacement player for the tour in due course,” the ECB released in a statement.
Brook’s absence comes as a significant setback for England, given his remarkable performance since his debut in 2022. Known for his aggressive batting style, he has been a standout performer for England in both Test and T20 cricket, contributing significantly to the team’s success.
“I hope alls ok with Harry Brook and his family, first and foremost! Secondly, that’s a major blow to England’s chances, because under Baz (McCullum), Harry is an absolute STAR,” Pietersen wrote.
Kevin Pietersen took to social media to express his thoughts on Brook’s absence, expressing hope for the well-being of Brook and his family. He also acknowledged the impact of Test team coach Brendon McCullum in shaping Brook’s development as a cricketer under his guidance.
“Yours truly also said that he is no longer part of the Fab 4. He is now, by the way. It was about the runs at that time, in that period of two years, but he is back again. Steve Smith has fallen away. Kane Williamson is also going 50-50 but this guy is still there. He was there then also and has returned now,” Pietersen added.
Pietersen emphasized that Brook’s absence would be a major blow to England’s chances, highlighting the young cricketer’s potential as a star player under McCullum’s mentorship.
Since his debut, Brook has displayed impressive form, scoring 1181 runs in 12 Tests at an average of 62.15, including four centuries and seven half-centuries. His success has also earned him a contract in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he has showcased his power-hitting abilities for franchises like Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.
Brook’s absence will undoubtedly be felt by England as they gear up for a challenging Test series against India. The team will look to regroup and find a suitable replacement to fill the void left by the talented young cricketer.
