The two national selectors, Shiv Sunder Das and Salil Ankola, currently in South Africa, will join chairman Ajit Agarkar during the second Test at Newlands. It is expected that the committee will engage in discussions with head coach Rahul Dravid, Test and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma, and star batter Virat Kohli before finalizing the squad against Afghanistan.
Dilemma Over IPL Participation
While around 30 T20 specialists, including India and IPL stars, are under consideration for the T20 World Cup, a significant dilemma revolves around whether to select Rohit and Kohli for the Afghanistan series or monitor their form and fitness during the IPL. Both players have conveyed their strong desire to be part of the T20 World Cup.
With England Tests commencing on January 25, the Afghanistan series might not provide a comprehensive assessment of players’ readiness. A senior BCCI source emphasized, “Everything will be decided on the basis of the first month of IPL.” Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya’s unavailability due to fitness concerns further complicates the selection process.
Workload Management and IPL Monitoring
