With Shreyas Iyer taking over the captaincy of Punjab Kings for IPL 2025, the team will be hoping to overcome past struggles and make a stronger push towards securing their first-ever IPL title.

After a disappointing 9th-place finish last season, Punjab Kings have made some significant changes to their squad and will look to improve key areas such as death bowling, batting depth, and spin-friendly strategies. With the addition of explosive players and a strong leadership structure under Iyer, the team looks to take the IPL by storm in 2025.

1) Prabhsimran Singh (WK)

A promising young wicketkeeper-batter, Prabhsimran Singh will be opening the batting for Punjab Kings. Known for his aggressive stroke play, Singh will be tasked with giving the team solid starts in the PowerPlay. He has been consistent in domestic cricket, and with the IPL 2025 season upon us, his ability to play fast and furious will be crucial.

2) Priyansh Arya/ Vishnu Vinod

Priyansh Arya is an explosive opening batter who comes with an excellent record in domestic T20s. He scored 325 runs at a blistering strike rate of 176.63 in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and further impressed with a staggering 608 runs at a strike rate of 199 in the Delhi Premier League. His ability to provide fast starts in the PowerPlay will be crucial, especially considering Punjab Kings’ PowerPlay run rate has been one of their weakest areas in recent seasons.

Despite limited opportunities in the IPL, where he featured in just six matches and scored 56 runs, Vishnu Vinod has been steadily progressing in domestic cricket. He played a pivotal role in Kerala’s journey to the Ranji Trophy finals, demonstrating his potential as a dependable wicketkeeper-batsman. Punjab Kings will be keeping a close eye on him, viewing him as a promising talent who can step up in crucial moments when needed.

3) Shreyas Iyer (C)

Captain Shreyas Iyer will play a key role in Punjab Kings’ middle-order. A player of immense potential, Iyer’s leadership and aggressive batting approach will be integral to the team’s chances in IPL 2025. In 75 IPL matches, Iyer has accumulated 2,340 runs at an average of 30.67, including 15 fifties. His ability to stabilize the innings and accelerate when needed will be pivotal for the team’s success.

4) Nehal Wadhera

A young and promising batter, Wadhera has the potential to play key cameos in the middle overs. With the team looking to strengthen its middle order, his ability to rotate strike and score boundaries will be important. Wadhera has shown glimpses of brilliance in domestic cricket and could prove to be an exciting addition to the PBKS lineup.

5) Glenn Maxwell

Maxwell brings a wealth of experience and explosive batting ability to the Punjab Kings’ middle-order. The Australian all-rounder has been a consistent performer in the IPL, with his versatility offering much-needed balance to the squad. He can turn matches on their head with his aggressive batting and also provides crucial overs with his off-spin.

6) Shashank Singh

Shashank Singh provides vital middle-order firepower for Punjab Kings. His ability to strike the ball cleanly in the death overs makes him a crucial player in the team’s lineup. Singh’s consistency in domestic cricket, combined with his IPL experience, will help him become an impact player for PBKS in IPL 2025.

7) Marcus Stoinis

The Australian all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis, is one of the most valuable players in any T20 lineup. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball will give Punjab Kings the flexibility they need, especially in pressure situations. Stoinis can hit big, clear the boundaries, and bowl crucial overs in the middle phase. His presence will provide balance and depth to the team.

8) Azmatullah Omarzai

A solid all-rounder from Afghanistan, Azmatullah Omarzai provides versatility to the Punjab Kings squad. A useful bowler with the ability to pick up key wickets, Omarzai also brings batting depth to the lower order. His experience in T20 cricket could be an asset for the Kings, especially in the crucial middle and death overs. He can play as a floater in the middle overs and his bowling style will suit the Punjab wicket.

9) Marco Jansen

Marco Jansen, the tall South African pacer, will add firepower to the PBKS bowling attack. His ability to extract bounce from the pitch and bowl in the powerplay and middle overs makes him a vital asset for the team. Jansen is known for his disciplined bowling and can provide key breakthroughs when required.

10) Harpreet Brar

A left-arm spinner, Harpreet Brar has been one of Punjab Kings’ most reliable bowlers in recent seasons. Known for his accuracy and control, Brar is likely to feature prominently in the team’s spin-heavy strategy. With his experience in both domestic and IPL cricket, Brar will play a key role in breaking partnerships and providing balance to the attack.

11) Yuzvendra Chahal

Chahal, one of India’s most successful T20 bowlers, is an important addition to the Punjab Kings’ spin attack. With 166 IPL wickets to his name, Chahal’s leg-spin will be key for PBKS, especially on spin-friendly tracks. His ability to bowl in the middle overs and at the death gives him the potential to restrict scoring and pick wickets during critical phases of the game.

12) Arshdeep Singh (Impact Player)

A key bowler for Punjab Kings, Arshdeep Singh will be used as an impact player when defending totals. With his ability to swing the ball in the powerplay and accuracy in the death overs, he has the potential to turn matches around with his well-executed yorkers and slower balls.
