In a jaw-dropping moment of athletic brilliance, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) debutant Abhinav Manohar lit up the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday by taking a sensational one-handed catch to dismiss Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The spectacular effort came early in RR’s steep chase of 287 runs in their IPL 2025 campaign opener.
The breathtaking catch unfolded in the second over of the Royals’ innings. SRH pacer Simarjeet Singh, also making his debut for the franchise, steamed in and delivered a short and wide ball at a brisk 142 kph. Jaiswal, eager to get the chase underway, unleashed a powerful cut shot. The ball seemed destined to sail past point, but Manohar had other plans.

Timing his jump to perfection, the 30-year-old Manohar flew horizontally, stretched out both hands but astonishingly pouched the ball with just his right hand. It stuck cleanly, leaving everyone—including Jaiswal—stunned. The SRH camp erupted in celebration as the Royals lost their in-form opener for just 1.
Simarjeet Singh wasn’t done making an impact. On the very next delivery after Jaiswal’s dismissal, RR stand-in captain Riyan Parag walked in and smacked a boundary off his first ball. However, Simarjeet responded emphatically. Banging it short at 145.5 kph, he forced Parag into another aggressive stroke, which resulted in a top edge safely taken by SRH skipper Pat Cummins at mid-on. Simarjeet finished his initial spell with two vital wickets and set the tone for a dominating bowling performance.
RR’s woes continued as Mohammed Shami joined the attack and sent Nitish Rana back cheaply. Though Dhruv Jurel launched a quick counterattack with a 20-run blitz against Cummins in the last over of the powerplay.
Earlier in the day, SRH’s batting unit put up a batting exhibition. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head laid a strong foundation, adding 45 runs in the first three overs. Head’s blistering 67 off 31 balls and Abhishek’s quick-fire 24 off 11 kept the scoreboard ticking.
The highlight of the innings was Ishan Kishan’s sensational debut century for SRH. He hammered 106 off just 47 deliveries, registering his maiden IPL hundred. Valuable cameos from Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen propelled SRH to an imposing total of 286/6, the second-highest total in IPL history, narrowly missing their own record of 287.
