Islamabad United Sign hard hitting New Zealand Opener in PSL 2024

Islamabad United, a prominent franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has made a significant addition to their squad by signing former New Zealand cricketer Martin Guptill as a replacement for UAE batter Mohammad Waseem. Waseem was initially signed by Islamabad United but had to withdraw from the tournament due to other commitments.

Mohammad Waseem, known for his performances in the ILT20, was brought into the Islamabad United squad midway through the season. However, his participation in the PSL was hampered by a scheduling conflict with the UAE’s Cricket World Cup League 2 campaign in Dubai, starting next week and ending on March 9. Islamabad United’s final league stage game is scheduled for March 10.

Guptill’s arrival provides Islamabad United with a valuable boost to their lineup. The experienced cricketer has previously represented Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings in earlier editions of the PSL.

In the ongoing PSL 2024 season, Islamabad United has played two matches, winning one and losing one. They started strongly with a dominant victory against Lahore Qalandars on February 17 but faced a setback in their match against Multan Sultans on February 20.

Currently, Islamabad United is in third place in the standings with two points from two matches. They will be looking to improve their performance in their upcoming match against Quetta Gladiators at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on February 22 to stay in contention for the playoffs.

Guptill’s inclusion adds firepower to Islamabad United’s batting lineup and strengthens their chances of success in the PSL 2024 season.
