Shreyas Iyer, the Punjab Kings captain praised his young teammate Priyansh Arya for his efforts with the bat against Chennai Super Kings. The youngster recorded the fifth fastest century in the history of the IPL and also helped PBKS win a convincing game against CSK.

Shreyas praises Priyansh Arya

Thanks to 103 runs off 42 balls by Priyansh Arya, Punjab Kings scored 219/6 against Chennai Super Kings. The chase saw CSK eventually falling short of 18 runs. Priyansh smashed the fifth fastest century in IPL history, went on to hit seven fours and nine maximums, and left no chance to assault the CSK bowlers. Punjab Kings secured his service in the IPL auction for Rs 3.8 crore and Priyansh showed potential in no time.

Speaking of his heroics, his captain Shreyas Iyer heaped praised on Priyansh Arya. Shreyas said during post-match presentation, “The way Priyansh played was scintillating to watch. It was an out-of-the-world type of innings. When I spoke with him in the last game (when he was dismissed on the first ball by Jofra Archer), he was a bit timid in his decision-making when he faced Jofra Archer. Today, he backed his instincts. He was free flowing, and that’s the mindset I want everyone to have in this team. Basically, it was one of the top knocks I have seen in the IPL.”

Shreyas Iyer’s purple patch

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer is certainly enjoying the purple patch. After the Champions Trophy, the IPL 2025 has been a memorable journey for him as the PBKS skipper so far. Interestingly, Shreyas has won nine matches out of last 10 IPL games as a captain. Shreyas captained Kolkata Knight Riders last season and led them to their third IPL title. While PBKS are in the fourth place of the IPL points table, their captain is currently the sixth highest run-scorer of the IPL 2025 with 168 runs in four games so far at a strike rate of 200.
