Karun Nair continues to be the man of the moment — both with the bat and with his quick wit. During a light-hearted moment at a practice session before the IPL 2025 clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals at Ekana Stadium, Shardul Thakur tried to poke fun at the Delhi Capitals batter. But what followed was a hilarious exchange that had skipper Axar Patel rolling with laughter.
The incident took place as Karun Nair wrapped up his net session and began walking back. Thakur, who is known for his playful jibes, couldn’t resist and asked, “Are you sharing the nets? You should be batting alone. Why are you sharing the nets?”
Without missing a beat, Nair responded, “Take what you get, have you heard about it?” The cheeky comeback caught everyone off guard and sent Axar Patel and Shardul into fits of laughter. The video of the exchange, shared by Delhi Capitals on X (formerly Twitter), quickly went viral with fans calling it the “moment of the season.”
In the same clip, Axar Patel was seen greeting Thakur warmly, calling him “The Lord” — a moniker widely used by fans to refer to Shardul. The camaraderie between the players was on full display, showcasing the relaxed yet spirited atmosphere ahead of the high-stakes match.
“It’s not like Karun Nair, right?” joked Thakur during the banter. “Karun Nair’s case is different,” Axar replied with a laugh, hinting at the batter’s recent purple patch with the bat.
While the lighter moments dominated headlines, Delhi Capitals are still searching for consistency at the top of the order. The team has shuffled between Faf du Plessis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abhishek Porel, and now Karun Nair as openers. In their last five matches, DC fielded three different combinations, resulting in mixed results — partnerships of 23, 34, 0, 9, and 0.
Despite the instability at the top, Delhi Capitals have managed to win five out of seven matches. The middle order, under the leadership of KL Rahul, has performed efficiently, masking the opening woes for the most part. However, with Du Plessis still recovering from injury, the team will be eager to find a stable partner at the top.
Delhi’s batters will face a stern test against Lucknow’s bowling attack, led by Digvesh Rathi, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, and the ever-entertaining Shardul Thakur. Although Thakur has been slightly expensive, his knack for breakthroughs makes him a dangerous customer. The bowling unit has successfully choked opposition batters in the middle overs without relying on flashy performances.
