Ottniel Baartman and Andile Phehlukwayo Set to Miss Last Two ODIs Against India

In a significant setback for Cricket South Africa (CSA), pacer Ottniel Baartman and all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo will be absent from the remaining two ODIs against India in their ongoing three-match series. Baartman sustained a right-side strain during training, while Phehlukwayo suffered a left-side strain in the first ODI against India.

To compensate for these losses, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved pacer Beuran Hendricks as Baartman’s replacement. The 33-year-old has represented South Africa in eight ODIs, claiming five wickets. Additionally, he has featured in 19 T20Is and one Test match since his debut in 2014.

These injuries could pose a challenge for South Africa, especially after drawing the T20I series against India. The hosts are currently trailing in the ODI series following a dominant performance by India in the first ODI. Led by KL Rahul, the Indian team aims to continue their impressive form in the second ODI against South Africa.

The first ODI saw South Africa bat first and post a modest total of 116 runs before being dismissed. Arshdeep Singh was the standout bowler for India, claiming five wickets, while Avesh Khan and Kuldeep Yadav contributed with four and one wicket, respectively. In response, debutant Sai Sudharshan showcased his talent by scoring an unbeaten 55 runs off 43 deliveries, supported by Shreyas Iyer‘s 52 off 45 balls, leading India to an eight-wicket victory.
